Superman and Steve...

Today is assessment day over here at AUT. (auckland university of Technology, Place i Study Visual art at) and for the last 3 weeks we have been painting. The brief for the paint was simply to paint something that we had watched and studied. It took sometime for me to understand what the heck the brief was about but i got the idea after a week of information gathering. We had to make visual art about something we had seen in our daily lives and adapt it in figurative ways or explore different posiblities of explaining it visually. My final work was called superman and steve...

First let me tell u about steve... Steve is a rain drop.
At this point i know for a fact that you are laughing.

I studied how rain drops behave from the time they fall till they hit a surface. so i gave it an identity and called it steve. if u watch a drop of water on a wind screen of a car and for reason of explaination there was a tree behind it, the image of that tree would be reversed. for example

Its almost like steve shows you the image only reversed. so the artworks below are called world through the eyes of steve

Then i wondered what it would look like visually if steve fell in water. A drop of water would definately create ripples. so i made an artwork with ripples in them...

the reason they are called superman and steve is cause they are painted with the exact colors that the superman costume is made of. and steve like superman fell from above to live on earth. except the pink color... i just had lots of pink that i wanted to use...

All the above you just read may sound silly to you but in art school all the narrative that give is what they want no matter how silly it sounds...

There are about 30 more works but i havent taken pics of them cuase these are the ones that i gave for assessment

ill know my results on monday...

more news soon..
